CARD TRICKS

(11 ENTRIES)

1)
THE HINDU SHUFFLE

The Hindu Shuffle is favoured by card cheats as it allows them to keep tabs on certain cards while making it look like the deck has been thoroughly shuffled and mixed up.
First the shuffle. Hold the pack of cards face down in your left hand then, with the thumb and index finger of your right hand on either side of the pack, draw all but the top few cards away.
Now allow the remaining cards in your left hand to drop into your left palm.
Next bring the cards in your right hand back to the starting position and repeat again and again, until there are only a few cards in your right hand. Put these on top of the pack and begin again.
After perfecting your shuffle ask your friend to pick a card from the pack and keep it. Begin the Hindu Shuffle with the rest of the pack and tell your friend to shout "Stop!" when he feels like it.
During the early part of the shuffle, turn the cards in your right hand to 90 degrees and tap them against the cards in your left hand, as though you are straightening them. This will allow you to see the bottom card.
When the cardholder shouts "Stop!" ask him to replace the card on the top of the pack in your left hand.
Now put the cards in your right hand on top of the rest of the pack, leaving the card that you memorised now laying on top of the card selected by your friend.
Finally ask your friend to cut the pack, then fan all the cards across the table, face up, and the card your friend picked will be next to and immediately after the card you memorised.
What a winner!

2)
THE THREE CARD SHUFFLE

This card trick has been played on people for hundreds of years and still works today. It's the classic one where the player has to guess which of the three cards, all laying face down, is a red queen against the other two which are black aces.
Firstly, get a friend to pretend to be a player and let him win a few hands, then the victim thinks he cannot possibly fail, as he notices that one corner of the queen card has bent a little bit during the play.
During the shuffling, however, the cardshark straightens the bend and places one in the ace instead. (After a bit of practice this can be done seamlessly)
The victim immediately chooses the card with the bend in it and when the card is overturned up pops the black ace! There is never any comebacks! And can make you some money too!

3)
THE DISAPPEARING CARD

This is a great card trick and quite simple to do! It's the one where you have a card in your hand and you simply make it vanish in mid air!
To begin the trick hold the card between your first and fourth fingers.
Next bring your two hidden middle fingers to the front flipping the card on an axis at the point that you have been holding it.
The card should now be hidden! If you now try this in reverse it will be even more effective!
Keep practising often to perfect this trick and you will be amazing everybody!

4)
THE "COPYCAT" TRICK

This is a simple yet stunning card trick. You and your victim each have a pack of cards which you both shuffle. You then each select a card from your own pack and when both cards are turned over they are amazingly identical.
To start the trick both packs of cards are shuffled and cut, you then hand you pack to the victim and you take the victim's pack. Both of you then shuffle the packs again and you return the victims's pack back to him face down on the table. Do this by holding the pack lengthways with your fingers at one end and your thumb at the other end moving it past your line of vision as you lay it down on the the table.
Now slyly glimpse the bottom card (i.e the Ace of spades) and remember it clearly.
Next, you say to your victim "Do exactly the same as I do!"
Now spread your own pack of cards across the table into a ribbon, pull a card out of the middle of the ribbon without anyone else seeing it, and look at it. (Only pretend you have looked at it and make sure you only remember the bottom the card (Which was the Ace of Spades).
Now you say to your victim "Take a card from the ribbon you just made and remember it!"
Now square the face down pack and put the chosen card on top of the pack, face down.
Now make a complete cut, burying the card.
When the victim has copied you and put the card back on top of his own pack and cut it tell him "Right, let's swap packs again!"
Now tell the victim to take from your pack the card he looked at and put it face down on the table.
Say to the victim "I will take mine from your pack!"
Now pick your victim's cards up and look for the card you remembered, the "Ace of Spades". When you find it the card underneath will be the spectators chosen card.
Remove it and put it face down in front of you!
Tell the victim to turn his card over and when he has done so, pause, look at the victim and then turn your card over. THEY WILL BOTH BE THE SAME!
Now say to him "You are a copycat aren't you!"

5)
THE "LIVING CARDS" TRICK

Another brilliant trick which may actually confuse you too! The object of the trick is to mix up the cards to your victim's instructions but they seem to be 'Alive' and always end up the same as they were at the beginning.
To begin the trick take out all thirteen cards of the same suit and lay them down in numerical order on top of the table.
Now tell the victim to make a careful note of the order the cards are in, square the 13 cards together and turn them all face down in your left hand.
Now say to the victim "To stop any cheating I want these cards to be thoroughly mixed up and you will tell me how to deal them!"
You then tell the victim that if they say the word "Deal" you will put a card on the table and when the victim says "Dip" you will take the second card from the pile and put it on top of the first card then deal both cards on the table.
Keep doing this following the victim's instructions at total random until all the cards are dealt. Now pick up the pile and square it.
Now say "As you know, this has totally mixed the cards up but to make them even more mixed up we will do the same thing again!"
Once again keep dealing out the cards carefully to the instructions of the victim, "dealing" and "dipping" at total random.
Just before you have dealt all the cards again say to your victim "It does not matter what you tell me to do because these cards are magic and will always go where I tell them to go!"
When you have finished dealing the cards on the table square them up, turn then face up and spread them across the table in a line and amazingly all thirteen cards are back in the same order as they were at the start!

6)
THE X-RAY EYES TRICK

An eye popping trick that will stun your friends! The object of this trick is to cut a pack of cards into three face down piles. You then gaze at the three piles for a few moments in total concentration and correctly name the top cards of the three piles. This is how it is done.
Before you start the trick you must know the name of the top card of the pack, which is easy to find out. Simply glimpse at the top card as you spread the pack to show the victim that it is an ordinary pack of cards!
Now put the pack of cards face down on the table and ask the victim to cut it into three roughly equal piles, keeping all the cards face down. As the cards are being cut you must keep track of the pile with your known card on top, let's say the "Ace of Spades".
You now say to the victim "I have x-ray vision. I have enough of this to see through paper and other materials to a depth of about a millimetre, which is just about deep enough to read through a playing card, most of the time!"
Now tell the victim to write down on a piece of paper each card that you have seen with the "x-ray vision" so that no mistakes can be made.
Now point at one of the piles (not the one with your known card on top), frown for a second and say "That card is the Ace of Spades" Lift the card up from the pile with your left hand without the victim being able to see the face of it, smile as if you were right and remember the card (let's say its the three of diamonds) and keep it hidden in your right hand.
Now point to the other pile with the unknown card on top and say, "That card is the three of diamonds" Lift the card up with your left hand and look at it again smiling confidently. Remember this second card, let's say it's the "King of Hearts" and hide it with the first card in your other hand.
Now look at the third pile (the one with the Ace of Spades on top) and say, "That card is the King of Hearts". Lift up the card and smile again as you look at it and then place with the other two cards.
Now ask the victim "What cards did you write down?"
As the victim reads out the names of the cards you turn them over one by one showing that you do indeed have x-ray vision!

7)
THE MIXED UP CARDS TRICK

This easy to do trick allows the victim to deal the cards themselves, stopping when they want to. When the last card that is dealt is turned over it is revealed to be the card identified in a written note.
Before starting the trick make sure that you get a piece of paper and write on it "You will stop at the four of diamonds!" Next place the piece of paper in an envelope and put this into your pocket with a "four of diamonds" laying against the back of it, face up.
To start the trick ask the victim to shuffle the cards themselves and tell them "Deal them out and stop anytime that you want. You don't have to make a neat pile. They can be dropped anywhere in the middle of the table."
The key to this trick is that the cards always have to be dealt by the victim in an untidy pile.
While the cards are being dealt reach into your pocket and pull out the envelope with the card face down underneath it. Practice this so you get it perfect.
When the victim has finally decided to stop dealing drop the envelope onto the pile thus adding the four of diamonds to the pile.
Now say to the victim "Please look inside the sealed envelope"
The victim opens the envelope and reads the note inside.
Now move the wallet and turn over the top card on the pile showing the message was correct!

8)
THE DICEY CARD TRICK

Before doing this trick cut a sheet of A4 white paper into twenty or thirty squares and on all but one of them write the word "Spades". On the last remaining square write the word "Hearts".
Now fold all of the squares in half so that they cannot be seen and drop all of them, except for the one with the word "Hearts", into a plastic bag. The paper with the word "Hearts" now goes into your pocket.
Next get the "3 of Spades" card and using a water resistant black pen write "1/2" to the right of each 3 in all four corners. Also draw half of a spade between the other three spades on the card. This card now looks like the three and a half of Spades. Put this card in the same pocket as the piece of paper.
Now you are ready to perform the trick.
First tell your victim that you have a card in your pocket which you placed there because you had a premonition. Tell the victim "It's the card that I was sure someone would choose!"
Now bring out the card (3 and a half of Spades) from your pocket, at the same time hiding the square piece of paper from your pocket between your index finger and middle finger and lay the card face down on the table so nobody can see it.
Bring out the plastic bag with the pieces of paper in it and say to your victim "All of these pieces of paper have different card suits written on them." Reach into the bag (Still hiding the paper between your fingers) and pretend that you have just taken it out of the bag. You bring out the one that was already between your fingers and say, "See, this one says Hearts. Now somebody else take one."
When the victim reaches into the bag he then pulls out a piece of paper that will say "Spades".
Now say, "The paper you have drawn will determine the suit!"
Next bring out the dice and say to the victim "Now roll this dice and add the number on the top to the one on the bottom." (If he rolls a 5 then the bottom number will be 2 - 2+5=7)
Now say "Divide the total by two and that will be the number on the card!" (7 divided by 2 equals 3 and a half)
Next ask the victim what number they have worked out and they will always say "Three and a half!"
Now look a bit perplexed as though the trick may have gone wrong and say "Really? Are you sure? That can't be right! Well let's see what card you picked then!"
Turn the card over and amazingly it is the 3 and a half of Spades!
By the way this trick cannot go wrong because the opposite sides of a dice ALWAYS add up to seven!

9)
CARD ESTIMATOR

The effect of this card trick is to estimate a card's position in the pack even though the estimate seems impossible.
Before starting the trick cut off a quarter of a card and place this "fixed" card under five other face down cards. Mark the upper left corner of the top card and conceal these 6 cards at the bottom of the pack making sure that the victim cannot see the "fixed" card.
Now spread the pack across the table, making sure the bottom cards are bunched up and ask the victim to take any card from the middle.
Now bunch up the cards and say to the victim "Remember your card and put it face down on top of the pack so that I cannot see it!"
When this has been done say to the victim "I am now going to cut the pack in half so that your card is buried!" When you have cut the pack the chosen card will now be directly under the "Fixed" card.
Next say to the victim "I am going to find your chosen card by detecting it's vibrations!"
Begin thumbing through the cards and when you come to the one with the mark in the upper left corner cut it to the top so that the card and the one beneath it are now at the top.
Square the pack and say confidently "I have found your card and it is the one at the top!"
Now turn over the card and say "This is your card, isn't it?"
The victim will always say "No".
Now tell the victim "I knew all the time that this was not your card but I chose this one because it will give me an estimate of where your card is!"
Put the card to your ear and pretend to listen to it and nod slowly.
Now put the card to the bottom of the pack and say "The estimate is four and three quarters!"
Now count out the cards aloud, lifting each one of them until you get to the fourth one and say "Four" and then lift the "Fixed" card and say "and three quarters!"
Drop the "Fixed" card and pick up the next one.
Now ask the spectator what their card was. Turn over the card and reveal that your estimate was correct!

10)
THE SMART CARDS

The effect of this trick is that you and the victim take turns at laying down cards on the table. When you put down a card that bears the message "You have run out of cards" the victim realises that he has.
First lets make the "Fixed"card. Get a sticky label and stick it across the face of a card. Write the phrase "You have run out of cards!" on the sticky label.
Now place this card at the twenty first position from the top of the face down pack.
Now ask the victim to cut the cards from the top of the pack, which is on the table, and tell the victim to put the cards in their pocket.
"Not too many though" you tell the victim "or we will be here all night!"
This usually ensures that the victim takes less than twenty one cards.
Now say "I will now take some!"
The important part of this trick is that you must take exactly twenty one cards and reverse them all.
To do this, pick up the pack and deal twenty one cards on the table, one on top of the other, trying not to make it obvious that you are counting the cards. Now put the pack aside and pick up your twenty one cards.
Now say to the victim "We will deal the cards face up in turns. Me first!"
Now deal your card turning it face up then the victim takes a card from his pocket and deals it face up. Continue dealing like this until you deal the "Fixed" card. The victim will then reach into his pocket and find that he has run out of cards! Amazing!
This trick is totally automatic and gives the impression that you have a tremendous amount of skill!

11)
THE SPEAKING JOKER

The effect of this trick is that the victim see's a perfectly normal joker but when it is dealt to him a magic message has mysteriously appeared.
Before doing this trick you have to "Fix" the cards.
First get two identical jokers. Cut one of them exactly in half and on the other one write the message "You have been jokered!"
Now put the joker with the message on it face up on top of the pack. Next get the half joker and line it up with the full joker so that it covers the message and looks like one card.
Now get a rubber band and hold all of them together with the pack thus the half joker will be held in place and its missing bottom will be concealed. It will look like one joker.
To start the trick drop the pack of cards on the table and draw attention to the joker saying "That is a very special card. It will always get it's message across!"
Pick up the pack of cards and let the victim have a good close look at the joker. Now turn the pack of cards over so that the joker is at the bottom of the pack.
Hold the pack of cards with your fingers (Making sure that you are holding the half joker in place) and say to the victim, "Please remove the bottom card without looking at it and put it on the table!"
The victim carefully removes the bottom card and places it on the the table. Now put the remaining cards into your pocket.
Next take out a pen and lay it next to the card. Tell the victim to put one hand on the pen and one hand on the joker.
Now say "Count to three and then turn over the card!"
When the victim turns the card over the message is then revealed!
